Family Souk Ventures is a business run by a group of skilled professionals who are pretty good at what they do, but more importantly share a common passion for our brands. We are all parents who have an uncompromising commitment to providing our children with products of the highest quality; and allowing us, as parents, to live active lives with our children. Our goal is to enable as many parents to have access to the brands and products we represent, whilst maintaining the integrity and market positioning of the brand. Saud has conceived, built and managed many early stage ventures and new products and services for large businesses. His experience spans retail, innovation, technology, data analytics, internet and mobile businesses, and new customer experience based business models. He has successfully developed and launched more than a dozen new ventures and growth businesses in the US, Europe and Asia for companies in the financial services, automotive, retail, mobile, internet and technology sectors. Saud has also co-founded two companies as an entrepreneur in the internet and technology space and has played an advisory role to many other new businesses. Over his career, he has partnered with some of the most innovative companies in the world like Google, Microsoft, Cisco, SKTelecom, SAS and IDEO on new ventures and concepts.
Before co-founding XVP (Xebec Venture partners), Saud was a Managing Director, Investments with Fajr Capital, a USD $700 MM plus investment company focused on making direct investments across Middle East and Asia that he helped found. Prior to co-founding Fajr in 2007, he was based out of New York as the Senior Vice President and global head of new venture development for Citigroup's Consumer Growth Ventures and Innovation team where he launched several new businesses including a global financial services mobile platform joint venture between SKTelecom and Citi.
Saud holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School where he focused on entrepreneurship and venture capital, and is a graduate of Princeton University with a B.A. Cum Laude, in Economics. Saud is a die-hard sports fan of cricket, football, American football, and baseball. He lives in Dubai with his wife and 2 kids.
In our family, at Family Souk Ventures, he looks after everything Digital within Family Souk Ventures, which is a pretty massive of what we do so we’d be pretty lost without him! He’s also a very cool guy, and he’s a voice of reason, so we have only called him Brother Nerd because of his chosen path into the digital wonderland!
Scott has over 20 years of broad international and emerging market senior management and operational experience. Companies where Scott has been instrumental to the operations range from start-up operations to rapid growth companies to turn-around situations at the international operations of mid-sized and Fortune 1000 companies. While Scott has worked across numerous industries, his core expertise lies in the consumer and retail space, across all distribution channels. Geographically, Scott has worked in businesses spanning over 50 countries throughout the Americas, Greater Asia, CIS, Europe, Middle East and Levant, with a focus on developing Western brands in emerging markets.
Prior to Xebec Venture Partners, where he is a Managing Partner, Scott was Managing Director, International at private equity firm Hilco Consumer Capital, where he was brought in to revitalize the presence and profitability of HCC's brands in the Middle East. Prior to HCC, Scott was the CEO of a high-growth and very profitable branded consumer hard goods licensing and distribution company operating throughout the Middle East, South Asia, Levant and Turkey and co-located in Zurich, Switzerland and Dubai (Jebel Ali Free Zone), UAE.
Scott has also held senior positions in several rapid-growth start-up companies in toys, sports entertainment and digital media/Internet. In the toy business, Scott invented 2 products, one of which –Super Grip Ball™ – was the 1991 Fortune magazine product of the year growing to $33 million in its first year of business.
Scott received his degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota. He is fluent in English and French, conversational in Arabic, and travel-able in Spanish, German and Italian. Scott lives in Dubai with his wife and two sons.
In our family, he’s the guy that everyone goes to when they need to get something done and when they have a problem. He has very heavy shoulders! His wealth of distribution and entrepreneurial experience is inspirational to all of us and he shares our passion for reinventing how distributors do business in the parenting sector in the Middle East. He is also a really hands on Dad to two wonderful boys. He’s the guy you would want to have as your Uncle, hence the ‘Cool Uncle’ title!
